S.A.D. Girl Autumn
I have confidently explained that I’ve never experienced Seasonal Affective Disorder before. I can now tell you with that same confidence, this is not true. What’s more probable is that I’ve never been so in tune with myself to notice just how much S.A.D. is impacting me.
Design is not a Pinterest board
This is for my people who get hung up on the word “design” because it’s so often heard in the context of interiors or spatial layouts. The word is so much broader— and better— than that.
Strategy is not a plan
I expect to have some questions or arguments to this post, and I am great with that. I love conversation about ideas where I can hear and learn from other perspectives. But today I’m going to give you mine and tell you why I think it’s a good approach for your own life.
Just let me do it
An appropriate subtitle might be How to dodge delegation.
I have always been terrible when it comes to delegation, meaning I didn’t do it for a long time. For people who struggle to hand things off, there can be many roots. Lack of trust is a big one, which often means keeping tight reins because “no one will do it as well as I will.” Fear of failure is another root, which looks like doing everything yourself because “failure is not an option.”
I'm the boss of me
I love hearing kids playing together and getting into hilarious (and often maddening) arguments. Inevitably, the phrase “You're not the boss of me!” gets blurted out a time or two and it always makes me chuckle.
You’re not the boss of me. In the case of the kiddos, that’s probably very true. It gets a little more complicated in different contexts, like school and work. Or... does it?
Simplicity isn't simple
“It’s simple. You just (fill in the blank .)”
How many times have you heard this? Better yet, how many times have you said it? We like to reduce entire ideas and systems into prescriptive statements, a bullet-pointed list to check off and turn in for a gold star.
